Binghamton police say a city man was stabbed in the back by a woman during a dispute near the Boys and Girls Club building in the First Ward.

Authorities say 37-year-old Danielle Harris of Gary Street, Windsor, was arrested shortly after the attack. She was charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

Investigators say Harris is believed to have stabbed a 32-year-old Binghamton man during a dispute in the area of 90 Clinton Street. The woman was found by police several blocks away from the incident, which happened late Thursday evening.

Harris was booked at police headquarters around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Detectives say police had been called to the area of the McDonald's restaurant at 167 Main Street around 9:15 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot.

Officers determined the man actually had been stabbed elsewhere and taken to a hospital.

Despite the initial report that the man was shot, investigators say it appears there had been no gunfire involved in the dispute.

Clinton Street between Murray and Mygatt streets was closed for about two hours after the attack.
