Will We See Our First Snowfall This Week?
Just a couple of days ago, temperatures were getting up into the low 70s in the Binghamton area. This week, we may see some snow.
According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for the week calls for a chance of showers Tuesday and Thursday with temperatures reaching a high of 49 on Tuesday, and 51 on Thursday. Wednesday looks nice, mostly sunny with a high near 55. But then on Friday, the Binghamton area may see snow for the first time this season.
According to the National Weather Service's forecast, there's a good chance that we will see snow showers in the very early morning on Friday, and then a mixture of rain and snow showers are possible before noon. So far, it doesn't look like we will have to shovel or anything, but still. just seeing the snow blowing around will remind us that we are heading for winter.
This would not be the earliest that we've seen snow in the Binghamton area. I remember just a few short years ago, seeing snowing in the middle of October.
According to WBNG, the earliest date for snowfall on record for Binghamton is October 2nd. On October 2nd of 2003 we received two tenths of an inch, and on October 2nd 1974 we received a tenth of an inch.
In case you were wondering what the latest date has been for the first snow fall of the season in Binghamton, it happened back on December 4th in 2006 when we received just over a half an inch according to WBNG.
Parts of Northeast Pennsylvania reported seeing some light snow this past weekend.
