Vestal Restaurant Ordered Closed by Broome Health Department

The Broome County Health Department has directed a restaurant in Vestal to cease all food operations.

A notice was posted in the main entrance of the Storming Crab restaurant at 2503 Vestal Parkway East

The closure order - dated October 10 - was signed by Mary McFadden, the county director of public health.

McFadden said food establishments are permitted to reopen if the have addressed every issue discovered during an inspection. She said the Storming Crab did not renew its required permit.

State records indicate the restaurant's permit expired on September 30.

The phone number for the establishment in the Town Square Mall has been disconnected.

The restaurant promised to offer a wide array of seafood in a format that was not available in the Binghamton area. The business opened in September 2020.

An online report indicated a January inspection resulted in a "critical violation" after  the discovery of improper refrigeration of potentially hazardous foods.

According to syracuse.com, a Storming Crab restaurant in DeWitt also has permanently closed.

The only Storming Crab location still operating in New York state is in Buffalo. A woman who answered that restaurant's phone Wednesday said the place was open. She had no information about the closing of the Vestal or DeWitt locations.
