Less than three weeks after Burlington shut down its Johnson City store, the national chain is planning to launch operations at a new site less than five miles away.

The Burlington store in the Town Square Mall in Vestal is scheduled to hold a grand opening ceremony on Friday.

Store employees and contractors have been busy over the past several days setting up merchandise displays and putting the finishing touches on the new Vestal Parkway location.

The Oakdale Mall store - which opened as the Burlington Coat Factory - had been a fixture at the Johnson City retail complex for almost 20 years.

That operation closed its doors early this month as the owners of the mall moved forward to develop the "Oakdale Commons."

The new Town Square Mall store is located where A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts shop had operated until 2020.

Construction crews started remodeling work at the Vestal site in June.

According to the Burlington website, the company is continuing to fill positions for the new store.
