Team USA led by Carmelo Anthony's 31 points fought off a tough Australia team with a 98-88 victory for their third straight win on their journey towards the gold.

This was a game that the Dream Team could have lost, they trailed at halftime and it looked like they were swimming upstream most of the game.

The shining star in this game was a member of my New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony who was 11 for 21 from the floor and surpassed all past USA Basketball Olympiads to become the all time leading scorer with 293 points. (Lebron James held the previous record with 273)

Anthony is also on his way to becoming the most decorated men's basketball player in Olympic history.

I thought the team was a little flat to start and once again Demarcus Cousins got into foul trouble, Kyrie Irving caught fire late in the fourth quarter and Team USA gained enough of a lead to hold on and win the game.

I have to admit it was nice to see the Australia team give us some real competition, the two previous games were blow outs and kind of left me disinterested in watching the rest of the game.

The best part was watching Carmelo play with a team that wins, as opposed to the Knicks who have been terrible the past few years.

Team USA has two more preliminary games left as they take on Serbia Friday Night and France on Sunday.

The battle for the gold may come down to a another match up with Australia, I kind of hope it does.

Go Team USA!
