New York State Police are reporting a couple recent physical domestic incidents in the region that have resulted in felony charges.

A Norwich man is charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal contempt as well as misdemeanor assault and endangering the welfare of a child following a domestic dispute at a home in the Town of Guilford at around 1:24 p.m. August 8.   

Authorities say 45-year-old Jeremy Squires is accused of breaking into the victim’s home on County Highway 35, preventing them from calling for help and striking them in the presence of a child. 

The victim had to be transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital for treatment. 

Squires is being held in the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 bail.

State Police say they also responded to a report of a physical dispute at a home on North Sanford Road in the Town of Deposit at 11:05 a.m. August 7 and tracked down 26-year-old Matthew Haigis of Deposit a short time later.  

He’s accused of breaking into the home, obstructing the victim’s breathing and breaking a cellphone, all in violation of an order of protection. 

Haigis is charged with felony burglary and criminal contempt as well as misdemeanor criminal mischief and obstruction of breathing. 

He was turned over to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
