The first week of October in Binghamton is usually an exciting time. You have all the leaves changing colors, there is always great Halloween themed events to enjoy, and the Binghamton Devils season gets underway.

Due to the health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, the American Hockey League announced back at the end of July, that the 2020 - 2021 season would start no sooner than December 4th. That's two months later than normal.

Devils fans should be excited about the the upcoming season. When Covid-19 caused the AHL to hault play in mid March, the Binghamton Devils were the hottest team in the AHL.

When the season was suspended, and eventually canceled, the Devils were riding a seven-game winning streak. The team showed a lot of resilience over the last few weeks of the shortened season. In a handful of games, they were down by two or three goals and came storming back for the win.

A lot of the same players from that team will probably be back in Binghamton when the puck eventually drops. Back in July the Devils announced that they had re-signed forward Ryan Schmelzer to a one-year contract.  And this week, the New Jersey Devils announced that they re-signed forwards Brett Seney and Ben Street, along with defenseman Josh Jacobs, to one-year, two-way contracts.

I hope whenever the puck drops on the Binghamton Devils season, that the players can pick up right where they left off, and get off to a fast start this year.

Even though the Stanley Cup Finals just ended last week, I already miss hockey.

Let's go Devils!
