Authorities say Trooper Craig Foglia sustained severe injuries in the incident, which happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Town of Campbell.

Investigators say the 45-year-old Foglia was sitting in his troop car when it was struck from behind by a westbound pickup truck.

The rear portion of the troop car was destroyed by the impact of the collision.

Foglia was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he underwent surgery. He was reported to be in the hospital's intensive care unit.

State police representatives say Foglia has been with the agency for almost 14 years. He is assigned to Troop E in Painted Post.

The crash is being investigated by state troopers and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
