StacheStrong To Host Annual 5K Run In Memory Of GJ Gerner

Every month, the Auchinachie Cares Program awards a one-thousand-dollar check to a Southern Tier New York charity organization for the amazing things that they do. Some recent organizations recognised include the Discover Center, STAND WITH ME Assistance Dog Team Training, Vines, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, Clear the Shelters, and many more.

Auchinachie Cares Nominee For August 2025

So, what great organization has been nominated for August 2025?
It's StacheStrong, which is a nonprofit organization that raised awareness and critical funding for brain reseach with a focus on glioblastoma.

StacheStrong was founded in memory of GJ Gerner. Each year, they hold the StacheStrong 5K Run & Walk. This year's event will be on September 20th, 2025, open to the public either in person at Vestal High School or virtually. The Run & Walk begins at 3 p.m.

According to the StacheStrong website, GJ Gerner developed his love for running as a standout cross country and track runner for the Vestal High School Golden Bears. This year's race will be 6 years since GJ gained his wings.

On average, over 1500 people participate, and all proceeds support innovative studies and clinical trials, making every step taken a stride toward hope and healing.
