Towns of Union and Vestal

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that phase 2 of the project to modernize four bridges on State Route 17 in the Towns of Union and Vestal begins today, Tuesday, September 22nd at 2 p.m.
During Phase One, crews replaced the approach slabs on four structures carrying State Route 17 over Vestal Road and the Susquehanna River along the eastbound side of the highway. Traffic between Exits 67 and 69 was maintained with single-lane traffic on the westbound side. That work is now complete according to the NYS DOT.
Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side of State Route 17, with single-lane traffic in effect between Exits 67 and 69 while crews replace the approach slabs on the westbound side of the highway.
Exit 68 eastbound and the State Route 26 southbound on-ramp to State Route 17 eastbound have both been reopened, but the State Route 26 northbound on-ramp to State Route 17 eastbound remains closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should follow the signed detour via State Route 434.
