New York Fall Foliage Season Kicks Off With Early Color Reports
Are you ready? Autumn 2026 arrives on Tuesday, September 22nd. That means cooler temperatures and changing leaf colors are on the way.

It's Fall Foliage Time!
It also means that it's time for the I LOVE New York Fall Foliage Reports. Over 100 volunteer field observers report throughout the season with expected color conditions for each weekend.
Reports for the upcoming weekend are released Wednesday afternoon and run through the end of the season for 11 regions in New York State, including Central New York and the Finger Lakes region.

What Is Fall Foliage Peak?
According to I LOVE NY, "peak" is described as the best overall appearance the foliage will have during the season, taking into account color transition, brilliance, and leaf droppage.
What To Expect For This Weekend
This being the first week (September 16), the first signs are already in progress, with the most significant changes expected this weekend in the Adirondacks, according to the field reports from volunteer observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.
Observers note that the most significant foliage change this weekend will include Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Wilmington, Benson, Lake Pleasant and Old Forge (Adirondacks); Delhi (Catskills); and Utica (Central New York).

Check out each weekend's predictions throughout the season on the I LOVE NY Fall Foliage Report website. It contains an interactive map that will give you all sorts of interesting information for each of the 11 regions in New York State, including charting fall color progress, vantage points for viewing spectacular foliage, suggested autumn getaways, and weekly event listings.
