Cortland County man faces a long list of charges after allegedly trying to outrun authorities who were attempting to pull him over for traffic infractions.

A Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling on the Telephone Road extension at Route 26 in Cincinnatus at 2:53 a.m. on March 5 tried to stop 28-year-old Ryan Durkee of the Town of Taylor. He sped off but ended up getting stuck in the snow on a seasonal road.

Authorities say they found Durkee had been driving with a suspended license and his passenger, 44-year-old Jeremy Rice of the Town of Cuyler, had illegal drugs in his possession.

Durkee was charged with misdemeanor counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Obstruction of Governmental Administration as well as violations of Failure to Comply with a Police Officer, Failure to Signal, No Tail Lights, No Inspection and Unauthorized Sticker.

Rice is charged with misdemeanor Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Investigators say they also found Durkee was wanted on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter and turned him over to the New York State Police.

Rice was released on his own recognizance.
