Camping season began on May 1st for me. What usually is what I call the most wonderful time of the year, was washed out by mother nature.

The few times I've been at camp, it's been raining, and that has made for nothing less than a washout when it comes to setting up outdoor items, mowing the fast growing grass, and, well, lounging next to a campfire with a beer or two.

So this week, I'm trying to be optimistic, hoping this upcoming three day weekend will bring warm temperatures and an appearance by that big yellow glowing thing in the sky.

I've been preparing for the weekend, making sure the lawn mower will start up (remembering to check for gas left from last season), getting food and drink supplies, tools to get outdoor stuff put back together, collecting kindling, buying firewood, filling the propane tanks and bringing paper to camp to get the fire started - works every time, and no, I don't use lighter fluid. That's cheating and it smells bad.

Of course, I know the real reason behind Memorial Day Weekend, and I will be remembering those who put their lives on the line for our freedom. I salute all servicemen and women, past and present, and hope you have a warm, sunny weekend.
