Unlock The Joy Of Camping In New York’s Great Outdoors
The countdown is almost over. Camping season is about to begin, and that makes me a very happy camper.
I have a countdown clock that begins on the first day of November, counting down day by day until the 1st of May, when camping season begins for me. That's the day I open up my camper and get it all set for the next 6 months of fun, relaxation, and connecting with camp friends that I haven't seen since last October.
Yes, you could say, it's one of my favorite places to get away from the stress of life...that is, until the phone rings. Oh well. Anyway, for those of you who enjoy camping or maybe would like to give it a try, did you know that New York State has plenty of DEC campgrounds to enjoy?
It's true. According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website, the DEC operates 51 campgrounds in the Catskill and Adirondack regions.

At these New York State DEC campgrounds, you and your family can enjoy plenty of experiences such as boating, hiking, fishing, enjoying time on a beach, having a picnic, taking advantage of day use areas, and of course, trailer and tent camping.
For those who want to fish at a DEC campground, be aware that fishing licenses are not available for purchase at the campground, but you can purchase one if needed online or by phone.
For a list of campgrounds, a camping guide, information on backcountry camping, maps, and more, visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website on everything camping for 2025.
