Supplements and treats for pets are finding more space on pet store shelves and CBD shops around New York, including in the Southern Tier, where owners of nervous or ill animals can find oils, ointments and treats claiming to aid in treatment of everything from anxiety during thunderstorms to arthritis and seizures.

President of the National Animal Supplement Council, Bill Bookout tells the Associated Press most of the industry is honest but there are some wanting to make money that put out products that contain little or no CBD.

Due to a lack of standards for CBD products from the federal government, there are no official guidelines for pet-parents concerning effectiveness, how to administer certain products and how much to give.
