Four Hurt After Greyhound Bus Fire on I-81 Near Binghamton
Several people were injured when a fire broke out on a Greyhound bus on Interstate 81 north of Binghamton.
The blaze in the town of Barker was reported around 1:55 p.m. Thursday. The bus was northbound on the highway. The northbound lanes of I-81 were closed at Castle Creek (Exit 7).
The bus was reported to be fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.
There were 42 people on the bus, including two children.
A woman sustained burns to her hands and legs. She was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
Three people were evaluated for smoke inhalation. Two were taken to Binghamton General Hospital, while the other did not want to be transported.
According to New York State Police, the bus was traveling from Long Island to Syracuse.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 81 were shut down because of the fire. One lane reopened around 3:45 p.m.
