Old Endicott Friendly's Prepped for Demolition by Byrne Dairy

A building that was home to a Friendly's restaurant in Endicott is being emptied before it's torn down to make way for a Byrne Dairy convenience store.

Workers were removing items from the once-popular eatery at East Main Street and Loder Avenue Wednesday.

The village planning board has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday to hold a public hearing on issues related to the store project.

The session will deal with the site plan review as well as applications for special use and aquifer permits.

The hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at the village municipal building.

The Endicott Friendly's restaurant closed without warning in April 2019. The property has been idle since then.

Byrne Dairy representatives failed to convince state transportation department officials to allow customers to make a left turn onto East Main Street from the proposed store.

The company is moving forward with the project despite the turn restriction.

Endicott Mayor Linda Jackson said Byrne Dairy should be able to proceed with the development once the planning board acts following the public hearing.

Jackson said she is aware of no other issues that could affect the project.

The mayor indicated she expects Byrne will move quickly once the needed permits are approved.
