A tractor-trailer struck a Department of Transportation vehicle on Route 17 in Tioga County, leaving a DOT employee with serious injuries.

Authorities say the incident happened around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday near Exit 63 in the town of Nichols.

According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, a DOT crew was working on the highway at the time of the crash.

The driver of the DOT vehicle was flown by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Investigators did not release the name of the worker or described the nature of the injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver, 37-year-old Lawrence Faucett of Ulster, Pennsylvania was issued tickets for moving from lane unsafely and failure to exercise due care under the state's Move Over Law.

The westbound lanes of Route 17 between Lounsberry and Nichols were closed for about five hours after the crash.

A spokesman for the New York State Department of Transportation declined to comment on the incident.
