Numerous Brush Fires Char Broome & Tioga Counties
Brush fires are continuing to be reported all around the region, including one in Tioga County in the area where a man wanted for several charges in Cortland County was last seen.
Barton firefighters were reportedly called out to Brooks Road April 8 for reports of brush burning. That’s the same area where New York State Police and several agencies had been looking for 32-year-old Matthew Perry of Cortland hours earlier.
That fire in Barton was just one of numerous fires starting late morning April 8 reported all around the region. Every day over the past week there have been up to a half dozen brush and grass fires called in to mainly volunteer fire companies all over the Southern Tier.

Broome Firewire reports West Endicott firefighters called to a site on Frey Avenue near a flood wall at around quarter of 9 p.m. April 8 for another brush fire.
The ban on open burning in New York is in place until May 14 but several things can start a blaze including sparks from engines and carelessly discarded smoking materials and matches.
