New NYS Law Begins in January
Check engine light off? Check. Tires have good life? Check. Windows tinted? Uh-oh.
I know you may like tinted windows but your front windshield and side windows block more than 30% of sunlight, your vehicle will not pass car inspection after January in the new year. The law has been there for years but now it will be enforced.
According to the DMV web site in New York, "this law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle."
It's not worth it to get pulled over so if you have tinted glass that fits this description, you might want to get it corrected before your inspection sticker is up. It will save you a lot of hassle.
If you have a medical condition that requires you to have tinted vehicle windows, you can click here to download the exemption form.
