A building that had housed a Family Dollar store in Tioga County for two decades is about to host another business.

Pro R/C Hobby and Raceway is scheduled to open for business in Sweeney's Plaza on Route 434 in Apalachin Thursday morning.

Dana Ellis said the family-owned business had operated in Sayre for several years.

Ellis said when he learned the Family Dollar store was closing a few months ago, he contacted the building owner. He said the site has about 10,000 square feet of space - about five times the space his business has occupied.

Ellis is planning to develop several race tracks inside the building and some outdoor facilities. He said the store will sell and repair radio-controlled cars. He said he's been  interested in the hobby since he was a child.
