More State Money Authorized for Endicott Apartment Project

A plan to convert an old Union-Endicott school building into dozens of apartments will receive millions of dollars in additional state funds.

Another $4.3 million in government money has been approved for the Endicott Square project.

Syracuse-based developer Housing Visions last year announced plans to develop a 71-unit apartment complex at the former Henry B. Endicott School on Jackson Avenue.

The project previously was awarded $3 million from the state-created Greater Binghamton Fund.

The latest funding announcement indicated the complex will have 61 apartments. It's not clear why the project now is expected to have ten fewer units than originally announced. A Housing Visions representative could not be reached Monday to explain the change.

The two-story school building was constructed in 1927. Marchuska Development acquired the property from Broome-Tioga BOCES for $50,000 in May 2014.

Several businesses now lease space in the building.
