New York State Police say a Susquehanna County resident was arrested after troopers discovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop on Route 17.

Authorities say 31-year-old Dustin Showers of Montrose was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.

Showers was arrested around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday. He was a passenger that was stopped for a traffic violation in the town of Mamakating in Sullivan County.

According to police, an investigation revealed Showers was illegally in possession of a loaded gun.

Showers was arraigned and ordered to appear in Mamakating court on July 21.
