Binghamton police are releasing more information concerning suspects involved in a shooting incident on April 5.

A resident alerted police to three males in the area of 17 Gerard Avenue at around 1:53 p.m. on April 6 who appeared to be looking for a weapon involved in the shots fired event and where authorities had stopped a vehicle the day before.

The witness reported one of the individuals appeared armed with a gun and a white vehicle seemed to be standing by waiting for the three searching the area.

Responding officers found a white Ford Escape leaving the scene and stopped it on Oak Street were one of the several occupants got out and fled.

He was apprehended a short distance away.

Other occupants of the vehicle were taken to Police Headquarters.

Authorities say one of those, 19-year-old Jayvon Phillips of Binghamton, tried to escape from the police station and assaulted an officer. He's charged with felony Assault.

Authorities say they found part of a P80 .9mm ghost gun in the vehicle along with a loaded magazine and found the other half of the ghost gun in Phillips' possession. Phillips is also charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Mischief.

The Police Lieutenant who was assaulted was treated at an area hospital for his injuries.

Phillips was sent to the Broome County Jail.

Another occupant of the Ford, 19-year-old Savion Harris of Binghamton, was found to be wanted on a warrant. He was arraigned and released.

Police say they interviewed the other occupants of the Sport Utility Vehicle, including the one who ran off, and they were released.

Chief Joseph Zikuski says with the help of the public and the work of Police officers, four handguns and a shot gun were recovered from reports of shots fired since April 12 on the West Side, First Ward and Town and Country Apartments on the North Side.

Police say the investigations are continuing and anyone with information should contact Detectives at (607) 772-7080.

The structure at Main and Murray streets was constructed in 1922. It was used for a wide range of events for several decades but it has been vacant for many years.

Although the building now is nearly a century old, it appears to be structurally sound. But as our tour this week revealed, plenty of work is needed to bring the place back to life.
