The Binghamton Rumble Ponies begin a six-game against the Reading Fightin' Phil at Mirabato Stadium with a bang. No, it's not fireworks night, that's not until Friday night, it's the appearance of Max Scherzer.

Max Scherzer Makes Rehab Start With The Binghamton Rumble Ponies

She didn't know who Scherzer was then but she does now. The man nicknamed "Mad Max" is coming to town for a rehab start for the New York Mets. Scherzer has won three Cy Young Awards, pitched two no-hitters, and won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

Scherzer signed a three-year $130 million contract with the New York Mets on December 1st, 2021. The contract is worth an average annual value (AAV) of $43.3 million which is the largest AAV in MLB history.

Mad Max won in his Mets debut against his former team, Washington Nationals, and it looked like he could be on his way to his fourth Cy Young award. Scherzer strained his left oblique on May 18th and had to leave the game.

Recovery time was set at four to six weeks, so he is a little ahead of schedule. This will probably be his only rehab stop before returning to the big club on Sunday. He's expected to only pitch three or four innings so don't be late to the game tonight.

The gates will open at 5:35 p.m. with the first pitch is at 6:35 p.m. and as an extra bonus, James McCann ((who is also rehabbing) will be catching Scherzer.
