New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer was the talk of the town when he made his rehab start with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Tuesday, June 21st. A record-setting crowd of 7,491 flocked to Mirabito Stadium to watch the future Hall of Famer.

He began the game by striking out the side in the top of the first. He allowed three hits and two runs before leaving the game to a standing ovation with one out in the fourth. He gave a quick wave before heading into the dugout.

Max Scherzer's Press Conference After Binghamton Rumble Ponies Rehab Start

After the game, he commented that he wants to be in the big leagues and not a Rumble Pony. Twitter weighed in on his comments including "He doesn’t want to be a Pony in the Minors, He wants to be a Horse in the Majors."

Scherzer is known to speak his mind and I understand why some Ponies fans aren't happy with him. Shortly after the press conference, a friend of mine texted me and said "I'm not a fan of Scherzer's anymore after his comments."

I have to admit when I saw the quote, my first response was, "I want to hear the audio. Here is Mad Max's entire press conference courtesy of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Another friend commented to me that he thought he was putting down the Rumble Ponies as a bad team. Maybe he was but the New York Mets are leading the NL East and are playing their best baseball in years.

I felt his comments were directed toward getting back with Buck and the big club. I didn't feel that it was necessarily anti-Rumble Ponies but I'll let you be the judge. If he doesn't want to be a Pony, maybe he could come back on Saturday and be a Stud Muffin.
