Landbank Demolishes Another Derelict Broome Property
An eyesore in the Town of Vestal is closer to being ready for redevelopment.
The Broome County Landbank Corporation acquired 2300 Owego Road near Route 434 in the Ross Corners neighborhood in a foreclosure proceeding in March and began tearing down the partially collapsed building May 19.
The property had been sitting vacant for several years and was deteriorating structurally, causing a safety and health hazard in the area.
The roof of the building partially collapsed over the winter and the property was condemned by the Vestal Code Enforcement Office.
The Landbank is working on a series of five demolition projects. Properties at 108 Roosevelt Avenue in Endicott, 1944 North Road in the Town of Vestal and 22 Fuller Street in the Town of Dickinson have already been torn down. 1215 Nanticoke Drive in the Town of Union is the final plot to be cleared in the current round at a total cost of $52,400-dollars for all properties.
