The flood-ravaged property at 179 Main Street, Kirkwood was torn down November 9 by Gorick Construction Company of Binghamton with the Town covering $3,000 of the cost to raze the vacant, single-family home. Broome County is waiving the tipping fees at the landfill for the disposal of the debris.

The property had been foreclosed on by Broome County for failure to pay taxes and was turned over to the Land Bank earlier this year.  The lot is located near the Conklin Kirkwood Bridge along the banks of the Susquehanna River.

The Main Street, Kirkwood home is the last of a series of three demolition projects undertaken by the Land Bank this year. The others were on New York State Route 79 in the Town of Colesville and on Nowlan Road in Hillcrest.  The total cost of the three demolitions came to $37,700.
