Labor Day Fun In New York’s Southern Tier? Here Are Three Ideas
The Labor Day weekend is here, marking the unofficial end of summer. Didn't the unofficial weekend of summer just happen? Summer goes by too quickly.
But, at least we have a lot of great things going on throughout the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania over the three-day holiday. If you are looking for some fun things to do this holiday weekend, here are three things to check out.
The annual Greene Labor Day Picnic is on Monday, September 2nd at the Ball Flats in Downtown Greene. This year makes the 105th year of this fun Labor Day celebration featuring a parade beginning at 10 a.m., and the ever-popular hose fights at 8 a.m.
Also featured throughout the day will be food, games, live entertainment, bingo, a 5K road race, a tractor pull, chicken BBQ, pony rides, a car show, a magic show, bounce houses, and of course a fireworks show to close out the Labor Day weekend and the unofficial end of the summer season.
The festivities will be from 8 a.m. to 9 pm. on September 2nd. For more information, and times of each event for the 105th Greene Labor Day Picnic, click HERE.
Another fun thing to do this Labor Day weekend is to visit the Ross Park Zoo on Morgan Road in Binghamton. The Zoo celebrates hard-working families this weekend with a Labor Day special admission rate on Monday, September 2nd.
The Ross Park Zoo wants every family to be able to create a memorable end-of-summer experience, offering a 'Pay What You Can' admission day on Monday, September 2nd, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last admission at 3 p.m.) Of course, children 2 and under are always free.
It’s important to us to make the zoo as accessible as possible for everyone. This includes removing financial barriers that may exist. We’re grateful for the generous support of the community and are happy to be able to offer discounted admission days throughout the year. We hope families will take advantage of our “Pay What You Can” admission pricing this Labor Day and come and create lasting memories with their families. - Phillip Ginter, Ross Park Zoo Executive Director
By the way, the Ross Park Zoo is a member of Museums for All, which allows guests with an EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card or a WIC/SNAP card to purchase general admission tickets for $3 per person for up to 4 people per EBT or SNAP card. For more information about the Ross Park Zoo, visit their website.
Finish out the Labor Day weekend by taking in a game at Mirabito Stadium on Monday as our AA Binghamton Rumble Ponies host the Somerset Patriots. The first pitch is 6:35 p.m. A fireworks show will cap off the evening at the end of the game. For more information, visit the Rumble Ponies website.
