Police have arrested a man they believed exchanged shots with another man on a Johnson City street on a weekday afternoon.

Authorities said 20-year-old Taejon Vega of Johnson City has been charged with two felony counts in connection with the gun battle that occurred on July 15, 2018.

Detectives announced Vega's arrest Wednesday. They said he has been charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police had said two men shot at each other in the late afternoon incident on Burbank Avenue between Floral and Grand avenues.

Investigators said the men involved in the gun battle acted with "complete disregard" for residents of the South Side neighborhood.

Police found bullets and casings in the area of the shooting. They have not revealed a possible motive in the incident.

Vega was sent to Broome County Jail after his arraignment.

Detectives did not indicate whether they know the identity of the other man involved in the street shooting.
