J&J and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics in Broome & Chenango Counties
Broome County is again offering the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine following a 10-day pause to examine rare blood clots in a few women who had taken the vaccine.
Broome has 33 doses available for appointments Thursday afternoon (April 29) at the SUNY Broome Ice Center while over 380 first-doses of the Moderna vaccine were said to be available for residents age 18 and over from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., also Thursday. Register online at www.gobroomecounty.com.
The advantage of the Janssen J&J vaccine is that it only requires 1 dose, making it easier for people who don’t like needles and hard-to-reach populations. The possible complications in 15 women under the age of 50 who developed rare blood clots in the brain have not been definitively linked to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising caution and a possible warning for women age 18 to 49 to look for side effects like severe headache, stomach and leg pain.
Chenango County is holding a Moderna Vaccine clinic at the South Plaza on Route 12 in Norwich on April 29 from 8:30 to 9:30am and from 5:30 to 7:30 p-m. Registration is being taken online at www.co.chenango.ny.us
