A Winter Storm Watch is also in place for Cortland, Chenango and Tompkins counties until midnight.

The National Weather Service says mixed precipitation is expected through the morning with additional snow accumulations of less than an inch and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch.

For the areas under the Winter Storm Watch, NOAA says heavy mixed precipitation is possible.

The total snow accumulations in Cortland, Chenango and Tompkins counties through Friday are being put in the three to eight inches and additional ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are possible.

Forecasters are saying winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour in the region Friday.

Road and sidewalk conditions are expected to be slippery especially for the Thursday morning commute for the Twin Tiers.

Motorists are advised to not only allot extra time due to the road conditions but plenty of extra time if they are parked outside to clear windshields of accumulated ice.
