A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Friday for Cortland County and areas north where three to six inches of snow, blowing snow and freezing rain is possible.

In the Greater Binghamton Area, NOAA says winds gusting as high as 38 miles per hour are possible along with rain and mixed precipitation.

Officials say gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and there could be scattered power outages.

Motorists, especially those driving the higher vehicles like vans and truck are reminded to keep a firm grip on the wheel.

The gusty winds could also lead to areas of blowing snow and areas of reduced visibility.  In areas to the north, where more snow is anticipated, fast bursts of snow and blowing snow could make for sudden slippery conditions on the roads.

Temperatures overnight January 16 could be into the low teens for the Binghamton area.  January 17, the wind chill is being forecast at around minus three during the day.
