Hearing Scheduled for Man Accused of Shooting at Johnson City Police

A pre-trial hearing had been scheduled for January 5 for a man accused of shooting at police in Johnson City who were attempting to take him into custody in September of 2020.

Court documents say the hearing was scheduled for 29-year-old Macoley Saunders of Binghamton, who had been named in a nine-count indictment, including two counts of attempted murder.

Police say a Village patrol spotted Sauders riding on the back of a motorcycle on Main Street on September 11, 2020 and tried to take him into custody.

The man reportedly ran through yards on Allen Street while being pursued by police. An investigator reported Saunders fired a shot from a .9mm handgun and fought with officers while being taken into custody at Hudson Street and Park Place.

An investigator and Saunders suffered minor injuries and were taken to UHS Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center for treatment where Saunders allegedly told the pursuing officers he should have "stopped and shot you guys."

In addition to the two attempted murder counts, Saunders was arraigned on several weapon-related counts, assault and resisting arrest in addition to the parole violation for which the officers were originally trying to detain the Binghamton man.
