Halloween Costume Giveaway & Celebration At United Way Of Broome County

One of my favorite memories as a child, was getting to go to the local store to pick out a Halloween costume. Almost as fun as getting the loads of candy my siblings and I would reap in our neighborhood.

Funny thing about those years (the 1960s), the costumes were mostly a flimsy fabric of whatever the character was that we chose to be, plus that plastic mask with a rubber band contraption to help hold the mask in place on your head. But for us, it was a lot of fun.

Halloween costumes have come a long way, and celebrating the Halloween season has become longer as well. We didn't think much about it when I was growing up until a couple of weeks before October 31st. Now Halloween items are popping up in stores by the beginning of August (or earlier in some places.)

Here's something nice for area kids that the United Way of Broome County and Vestal Rotary Club have planned in the month of October. The two organizations have joined together to present the Halloween Costume Giveaway and Autumn Celebration.

The event will be held on Saturday October 7th from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon at the United Way, located at 101 South Jensen Road in Vestal (right of the Vestal Parkway.)

It's free and open to parents and their children. Costumes will be given away, and there will be treats, pumpkins, costumes, and more! There is no cost to attend and the costumes are free while they last.

Parents must bring their child/children with them to the Halloween Costume Giveaway and Autumn Celebration.  Doors open right at 9 a.m., and when the costumes are all  chosen, the event will end, according to the United Way.
