Final Weekend For Broome County Festival of Lights
As the saying goes "all good things must come to an end" and is true for the Broome County Festival of Lights at Otsiningo Park. The last day was originally scheduled for January 10th but because of all the weather issues, it was extended until this Saturday, January 23rd.
The last night will go out with a bang and you won't want to miss it. Before we go forward, let's take a look back. There had been a holiday lights display for many years at Otsiningo Park called the "Hometown Holiday Lights Spectacular. After the flood in 2011 caused electrical problems, the "Spectacular" disappeared and looked like it may never return.
Last March, the coronavirus pandemic hit, and the whole world came to a halt. Everything was postponed or canceled including Spiedie Fest, which has been a summer staple in the Southern Tier for over 35 years.
They decided that we needed something to do during these tough times and they decided to bring back the holiday lights display and then changed the name. It was their first year and no one knew what to expect but their fears subsided as people as far away as two hours came to Otsiningo Park.
On Saturday, January 23rd, they came up with a unique show that will have ground displays that can only be seen in the park and one final round of fireworks that will begin at 7 p.m.
You still have a final chance to show your support as the park will open at 5:30 p.m. I would say that it's been a success and that's thanks to you. Finally, I want to say thanks to everyone for all of your hard work and I can't wait to come back to Otsiningo Park for Spiedie Fest from July 30th to August 1st.
