On Saturday, September 17, Smithsonian's Museum Day will give guests free access to more than 1,000 museums, zoos, and cultural centers throughout the United States.

2022 marks Smithsonian’s 18th Museum Day and the theme this year is The American Experience which will shine “a spotlight on wonderful arts, culture, sciences, innovation and history exhibits across the country," according to a news release. Participating locations will be free for admission, but are still requiring visitors to register and in some cases, pick up a free admission ticket.

In the Binghamton area, the Phelps Mansion Museum at 191 Court Street in Binghamton will be participating in Museum Day, allowing visitors to stop in between 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tickets are required and you can download them here.

The Vestal Museum at 328 Vestal Pkwy East in Vestal will also be participating in Museum Day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. While admission is free every day, this event's tickets need to be downloaded.

In Chenango County, the Chenango County Historical Society & Museum at 45 Rexford Street in Norwich will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society at 183 Main Street in Oneonta will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

If you feel like taking a bit of a road trip, the Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Glenville, just minutes from Albany, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Also near Albany is the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame at 191 Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs which will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
