Endwell Man Indicted in Crash That Hurt Sheriff’s Deputy

A driver whose Tesla slammed into a patrol car in Vestal, seriously injuring a Broome County sheriff's deputy, has been indicted on eleven charges.

34-year-old Daniel Butash of Alexander Street, Endwell faces seven felony counts, including assault, aggravated vehicular assault and reckless endangerment.

Butash also was indicted on a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.

Deputy Kristy Botsford was pinned in a patrol vehicle for more than an hour in sub-zero temperatures following the head-on crash on Route 17 around 1:40 a.m. February 1.

Botsford sustained knee and ankle injuries. She had been responding to assist Vestal police in locating a car that had been seen traveling east in the westbound lanes of the expressway.

Butash also was hurt in the crash involving the 2018 Tesla he was driving.

Investigators have said Butash apparently was driving from the Owego area to his Endwell residence.

Sheriff David Harder said Deputy Botsford is recuperating from her injuries. He said she's a "very strong and determined person" but she has "a long road ahead."
