Broome County Sheriff’s officials responded to the report of a crash shortly after 10 p.m. and found the 2005 Durango on its roof alongside the road.  Everyone got out of the vehicle.

Deputies say the driver, 23-year-old Dillon Winn, performed poorly on field sobriety tests.  Deputies say they detected the smell of alcohol on his breath when Winn told them he had swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Authorities say, upon searching the vehicle, they also found a bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Winn is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, drunk driving, moving from a lane unsafely, unlicensed operation and other counts.

Authorities say they measured Winn’s blood alcohol content at .16%, twice the legal limit.

He’s been ordered to appear in Town of Chenango Court at a later date.
