Democrat Opens Binghamton NY Senate Campaign Office

While the Special Master, appointed by the New York Appeals Court works to redraw the state’s congressional and state senate district boundaries by a May 20^th deadline, one candidate for Senate is not waiting to see what district the Southern Tier is going to land in.

Democrat Leslie Danks Burke has a campaign office open in downtown Binghamton.

The redistricting and the pushing back of the congressional and senate primary until August has thrown the process into confusion.  It’s not known how many of Burke’s almost three-thousand signatures that have been gathered will apply to the new district.

In a news release announcing the opening of her office at 508 Court Street, the Cornell Law School Adjunct Professor of Law is described as “a 15-year advocate” for the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and Central New York, working as a Planned Parenthood advocate and doing “legal work on behalf of public housing residents and incarcerated women suffering abuse.”

She is seeking the seat currently held by Republican Fred Akshar.  The district was previously represented by Republican Senator Warren Anderson from 1953 to 1989 followed by Republican Senator Thomas Libous.
