Is There A Deadline To Remove Political Signs In New York State?
With the election 2024 season over (well, almost), the political ads are gone, and our ears and eyes are happy about that.
And those signs. everywhere you looked this year, they were everywhere. Some areas seemed like an endless parade of political signs. At least we had no issues as to who was up for election throughout our communities and the state.
Now, though, it's time for them to all be gone, don't you think? Is there a deadline for removing all political signs that dot the roadways of the Southern Tier of New York?

Well, we found the rule that states it is against the law to place political signs in areas that would make roadside areas difficult or impossible for maintenance, like mowing for example.
Signs are also not to be placed in a road median or areas where they could distract motorists. As for a deadline to remove political signs, the best we can find, it is up to each municipality to make that decision, if any.
For the City of Binghamton, the rule is 30 past post-election. Johnson City and Endicott are listed as 5 days post-election, Endicott. For all Broome County Municipalities, visit the Broome County Board of Elections website. If you are not sure what that deadline is in your community, probably best just to take it down.
