Cuomo: “President Will Have No Fight from Me”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he wants to work with the federal government and President Trump in the ongoing efforts to address the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during an Albany news briefing Tuesday, Cuomo said "the president is clearly spoiling for a fight." But the governor said "this is no time for politics."

Cuomo said "the president will have no fight from me." He said the best thing that's happened during the COVID-19 crisis is "we've worked together."

The governor earlier in the day had challenged Trump's assertions that the president had the "ultimate authority" in reopening activities that have been shut down in recent weeks.

Although he's not looking for a fight with Trump, Cuomo said he's prepared to do battle if necessary to protect New Yorkers

At his daily update, Cuomo said another 778 people had died in New York as a result of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours. He said that brought the state's death toll to 10,834.

Based on the latest data, the governor said he believes New York state may be "at the apex" in the COVID-19 battle. But he noted it remains important for people to continue to maintain social distancing and to follow other guidelines to "control the spread" of the virus.
