Written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets in 1959 after the death of Buddy Holly the version never received any airplay.

The song was made popular by the Bobby Fuller Four who scored a top ten hit in 1966, Rolling Stone ranked this version number 175 of the top 500 greatest songs of all time.

Many artists have recorded a version of this song from the Clash in 1979, Green Day in 2004, and the Dead Kennedys who recorded a version with different lyrics to reflect the murder of San Francisco city Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone in 1978.

The list of artists who remade this song is lengthy, so today I have included several versions along with my 'Got Ya Covered' pick this week The Clash with "I Fought the Law'
