Cold and a Little More Snow for Twin Tiers

Just as the region is scraping up frozen slush from sidewalks and driveways, forecasters are passing along word that another component of winter weather: bone-chilling cold is on the way.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton says an Arctic Cold Front will move through the area December 18, bringing falling temperatures and wind chills of -5 to -10 into December 19.

NOAA says while the front can bring squalls that may deposit one to three inches of snow on the Southern Tier, Lake Effect snow could bring more flakes to Chenango and Cortland Counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon December 18 to 7 a.m. December 19 for those counties with a possible three to six inches of snow along with blowing snow that could cause slippery conditions and poor visibility.

Throughout the region, wind gust of up to 28 mph with the colder temperatures overnight in the upper single digits could make it feel like -6.

The high on Thursday is only supposed to be in the upper teens with steady winds of up to 11 mph making it feel like -6 during the day.

Warmer temperatures next week could impact chances for a white Christmas.  Right now, the high temperature on Christmas Eve is forecast to be around 40.
