Christmas is Over, Now What? Here’s What You Can Do In The Southern Tier
It's really easy to go into a lull after Christmas. Many of us have the week off, relatives to entertain, and kids home from school that can get cabin fever easily.
Try one of these options here in our area that are easy to take part in:
The Binghamton Devils have not one, but two home games between now and the new year.
The B-Devs are taking on the Rochester Americans on Saturday, December 28 at 7:05 p.m.
A few days later on New Year's Eve (December 31), the team will take on the rival Syracuse Crunch, beginning at 6:05 p.m.
Both games will of course take place at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Hockey's not the only thing on the menu this week. Basketball is also in full-swing.
Binghamton University men's basketball is playing against Hartwick College at the Binghamton University Events Center Sunday, December 29 at 2 p.m.
The next evening, December 30 at 7 p.m., the B.U. women will take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Just because Christmas is over, it doesn't mean that Christmas light displays are all torn down!
Check our interactive map of some of the most popular Christmas light displays in the Southern Tier.
If you've never seen the Roberson Museum's "Home For The Holidays" display, you have to check it out.
There's hundreds of beautifully decorated trees and loads of displays that celebrate cultures from all around the world.
There's also tours of the Roberson Mansion (which is absolutely beautiful, aside from Christmastime).
The event runs until January 5, but not on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Check out more details and hours of operation here.
An ice skating rink is being planned to open this weekend in Recreation Park.
It's been a long time since there has been ice skating in the park.
According to a Spectrum News report, the rink will be open on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to dusk, with extended hours on the weekend.
As long as temperatures are low enough for the ice, of course. There is no fee to skate, but you do need to bring your own skates.
There are plenty of New Year's Eve celebrations that you and your loved ones can hit up:
- Social On State in downtown Binghamton
- Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton
- DoubleTree in downtown Binghamton
- Dos Rios Cantina in downtown Binghamton
- Lost Dog Cafe in downtown Binghamton
- 205 Dry in downtown Binghamton
- JC Bar & Grille in Johnson City
- Midway Lanes in Vestal
- The North Brewery in Endicott
- Terra Cotta Catering in Owego
- Scooters Too in Greene
- Awestruck Ciders in Sidney
- The Shire Pub in Delhi
This is an easy way to kill a few hours. There's lots of new movies out now: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Jumanji: The Next Level, Little Women.
Can't go wrong with any of those!
This could be the most meaningful thing you can do with your time off.
Since you have some spare time, why not take an hour to help save a life? Just one blood donation can go a long way.
Here's one way you can do it: the Endicott Fire Department and Endicott Police Department are having a friendly competition to see which agency can get the most blood donations. Check it out!
