Broome’s Death Toll from COVID-19 Grows to 79
A woman in her 60s is the latest Broome County resident whose death is being attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the County death toll to 79.
Broome reported five additional positive tests for the coronavirus September 1. The County as had 1,214 positive cases of the coronavirus.
Chenango County reports 228 positive cases, an addition of one from August 31 and four from August 30 with seven deaths. Cortland County added one case for 95 and Delaware County had three additional cases for a total of 110 and six deaths. Tioga County’s numbers were unchanged from the August 31 report at 222 and 25 deaths. Only Broome reported an additional death this week in the Southern Tier.
New York State reported 754 new cases of the coronavirus for a total of 435,510. Three New Yorkers died August 31 for a total fatality count for the pandemic at 25,331.
The number of positive tests for the coronavirus at SUNY Oneonta is now 245 with 68 news cases reported September 1. The campus has been shut down for two weeks following the outbreak attributed to large gatherings and parties.
SUNY Geneseo is the latest school in New York to crack down on student behavior, suspending two fraternities and a sorority for violating pandemic rules.
Nine students were suspended along with the Theta Chi and Seta Beta Xi fraternities and the Sigma Delta Tau sorority. The students are on interim suspension, pending a student code of conduct review
