Broome Gets Lion’s Share of So. Tier Opioid Settlement Money

Broome County is to get over $1.6 million in the first round of payments under New York’s settlement with the manufacturers and distributors of opioids.

New York and other states sued various manufacturers and distributors of oxycodone, Hydrocodone, and other addictive pain killers to hold them responsible for the opioid epidemic.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced in 2022, The Southern Tier will receive a total of four-point-eight million dollars as the result of the $1.5 billion dollars secured in the settlements.

This round of payments comes from settlements with AmerisourceBergen Corporation, Cardinal Health and McKesson Corporation.

According to the statement from the Attorney General’s office, The Southern Tier later this year will get additional payments from settlements with Endo Health Solutions, Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Allergan.

In addition to Broome’s allocation of $1,664,579, Chenango County is to get $308,067, Delaware County $327,684, Tompkins County $702,406 and Tioga County $323,499.

James says the five largest cities in the state were to begin receiving funding this week.  The Attorney General says the Southern Tier will receive up to $26.7 million, total, over several years as part of the settlements.
