Broome Economic Forecast and Local Business Awards
Some Broome County businesses are being recognized for their ability to work through the extraordinarily difficult times posed by the start of the coronavirus pandemic almost a year ago.
The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce held a hybrid version of its annual Economic Forecast this week that outlined never-before-seen challenges to the local business community in the days of COVID-19.
Many businesses have changed their operating models to deal with safety protocols, total shutdowns, gradual reopening and a shift in public attitude and product demand.
Beer Tree Brew received the Transformative Award for its second location at the Oakdale Mall and being able to increase production of its beer by 10,000 barrels.
Ron Kweller and partners won the Individual Award for the downtown restaurants: The Stone Fox, Dos Rios and the Colonial and being instrumental in forming plans for outdoor dining as restaurants began do reopen during the pandemic.
Tom and Kathryn Sheredy won the Restorative Award for work at their property at 250 Main Street in Johnson City, developing the 121-year-old building into a coffee shop and apartments.
Scorpion Security Products of Vestal won the 2021 Building BC Innovative Award for its hand-held security devices and loss-prevention and monitoring systems to help retailers protect their merchandise.
