Broome COVID Cases Top 50K
As schools in Broome County prepare to go to a mask-optional rule March 2 in response to the slowing of new cases of COVID-19 and new state and national guidelines, the pandemic numbers continue to show new cases every day.
With the addition of 93 new cases since last Thursday, February 24 Broome has now passed 50,000 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. The County dashboard February 28 reported 50,092 cases since March, 2020. There was one additional death reported February 28 for a total of 493 lives lost to the pandemic.
Other counties in the Southern Tier reported new cases in the single digits over the weekend and no additional deaths.
In the weekly check of the COVID-19 numbers in Pennsylvania, the Keystone state added 10,291 cases Feb. 21-Feb. 28, almost half the infection rate from the week earlier. Bradford county had 81 new cases while the previous week it had 167 new cases. There was one additional death for a total of 192. Susquehanna County’s death rate remained at 104. The County reports 46 new COVID cases where the previous week's update showed there were 78 new cases. Wayne County lost three more residents to the pandemic for a total of 163 deaths while there were 55 new cases for the week. Wayne County had 109 new cases reported the previous week.
