Authorities say forest rangers have discovered a body in the Susquehanna River not far from the boat launch area of Grippen Park in the town of Union.

Endicott police Monday evening announced the body was found by forest rangers with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Investigators believe the body is that of 47-year-old David Bower, the Endicott man who is believed to have fallen off a ten-foot-high ledge into the river.

Someone called 911 around 1:49 a.m. June 25 to report a man was in the water. Police said Bower apparently plunged into the river in the area of South Liberty Avenue, just west of Mersereau Park.

Detectives have not publicly explained what Bower was doing near the river before he fell into the water.

Firefighters using boats searched the river near Grippen Park in West Endicott shortly after the man was reported missing.

Officials say an autopsy has been scheduled on Tuesday to make a positive identification of the body that was found in the Susquehanna.
